HDS: 37-Year ATA Member Company Focuses on the Class A Driver

HDS was started by George Prall as Driver Dispatch Inc. in 1972 to provide leased drivers to a company that needed efficient, reliable, on-time transportation. In 1988, Doug Prall (George’s son) took over the business with the creation of a new corporation called Highway Distribution Services (HDS). In 2004, a new division called Choice Drivers Inc. was created to supply interstate drivers only. Today, both HDS and Choice Drivers continue to provide professional Class A drivers to many companies throughout Arizona.

Since its beginning 38 years ago, HDS has grown into a company of more than 400 drivers, two truck driving schools (HDS Truck Driving Institute and Phoenix Truck Driving Institute), a DOT-regulations consulting division (HDS Safety Services) and a dedicated private fleet with more than 140 trucks (DSW). HDS can provide drivers anywhere within the state of Arizona for almost any period of time with as little as two hours’ notice. The company’s commitment to meeting customers’ needs, along with development of a top-quality driver pool, has made it a leader in the industry.

Doug Prall has been a member of the Arizona Trucking Association since 1973, is currently on the Board of Directors and has served in the past on its Executive Committee. He has served on many other committees and task forces, and has been a major supporter of the annual Truck Driving Championships. Each year, several dozen HDS employees commit time to plan and help run the TDC—an invaluable volunteer effort that helps make the competition successful.

Doug says he values the contact ATA membership brings him with other members and hearing their input on common concerns. He also highly values being part of an organization that monitors and defends the trucking industry’s positions on laws and new regulations.
