Kickoff For Accelerate Arizona Roadshow

Kickoff for Accelerate Arizona Roadshow

Accelerate Arizona is hitting the road! With Congress struggling to pass a long-term highway funding bill and Arizona’s Highway Users Revenue Fund (HURF) facing a shortfall, the business community is coming together to support a properly funded transportation system. The Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with local chambers and trade associations have formed Accelerate Arizona to focus attention on statewide transportation needs. This effort is designed to expedite mobility and reduce commute times, improve road safety, move freight to market faster, and enhance international trade.

Accelerate Arizona is launching a Transportation Roadshow to lean about the unique transportation needs that exist in each part of the state. Our goal is to get input from business leaders, elected officials and other stakeholders. We will be kicking off the Transportation Roadshow in Flagstaff this week, then traveling around the state to learn first-hand about transportation challenges in different regions. Each stop will include visits to major local transportation projects and a Transportation Town Hall that is open to the public. We are excited to welcome eight members of the state legislature to the Flagstaff Roadshow including the transportation committee chairs in both the chambers of the state legislature – Representative Rick Gray and Senator Bob Worsley – as well as county and city elected officials.

The first Roadshow Townhall will be held at Flagstaff City Hall on Thursday, August 27th from 9:00 am – 11:30 am.

The preliminary schedule for other Roadshow events is listed below. (Further details on times and locations will be released closer to the event dates.)

Sept. 10 – Safford
Sept. 25-26 – Nogales
Oct. 8-9 – Casa Grande
Nov. 4-5 – Kingman
Dec. 3-4 – Yuma

Arizona is a vast and varied state, and local leaders know their community’s needs best. During these listening sessions, we will hear ideas directly from residents which will be incorporated into our broader effort to improve transportation infrastructure. We look forward to engaging in a substantive dialogue in each location about how we can advance transportation together.
