Arizona Trucking Association Invites Fleets to Join the Connected Freight Signal Priority Initiative

Phoenix, AZ — The Arizona Trucking Association (ATA) is proud to share an exciting opportunity for our members operating in the Greater Phoenix Metro Area: the chance to participate in the Connected Freight Signal Priority Initiative, a cutting-edge pilot project led by the Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) in partnership with the U.S. Department of Transportation.

This forward-looking initiative is designed to improve freight mobility, reduce idle time, and enhance safety by equipping up to 200 commercial vehicles with onboard connected vehicle technology. Participating trucks will communicate with upgraded traffic signals across key corridors in Phoenix, Avondale, and Tolleson—receiving signal priority and real-time safety alerts as they travel through the Valley.

Why Join?

  • No cost – MCDOT covers the cost of equipment, installation, and training
  • No hassle – Devices operate silently with zero input from the driver
  • No privacy concerns – OBUs transmit only safety-certified, non-personal data
  • Real benefits – Signal priority means fewer stops, less fuel wasted, and faster trips
  • Positive visibility – Position your fleet as an innovation leader in a nationally funded pilot

ATA encourages member companies with vehicles operating in the connected corridors to take advantage of this unique opportunity. Your participation will not only improve your own operational efficiency but also help shape the future of freight movement and connected vehicle infrastructure in Arizona.
