Arizona TDC Volunteer Role Descriptions
Please note the event is outdoor and much of the course is uncovered. Volunteers should dress in comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather. Lunch and water are provided. Companies providing volunteers will receive recognition on our website, in the event program and from the podium during the award ceremony.
HOSTLER: A volunteer hostler plays a vital support role by safely and efficiently moving competition vehicles within the event grounds. Hostlers will stay with their assigned vehicle throughout the competition, helping ensure the event flows smoothly while maintaining strict safety standards. CDL required. Minimum volunteers needed: 10 Shift: Saturday from 6am to 4pm
STARTER: The volunteer starter ensures each competitor begins their run safely and fairly. By coordinating with officials and signaling drivers to start, the starter helps maintain proper timing, flow, and consistency. Minimum volunteers needed: 6 Shift: Saturday from 7am to 3pm
COURSE MARSHALS: Volunteer course marshals monitor the competition course to ensure safety and rule compliance. They observe driver performance, watch for infractions, and help maintain a safe environment for all involved. Minimum volunteers needed: 3 Shift: Saturday from 7am to 3pm
TIMEKEEPER: The volunteer timekeeper accurately records each competitor’s run time. Their attention to detail is essential. Minimum volunteers needed: 6 Shift: Saturday from 7am to 3pm
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Volunteer announcers keep the event engaging and informative by sharing schedules, information, and updates. Minimum volunteers needed: 2 Shift: Saturday from 7am to 3pm
RAFFLE SALES: These volunteers help raise funds while adding excitement and engagement for event attendees. Minimum volunteers needed: 2 Shift: Saturday from 9am to 11am
PRE-TRIP JUDGE: Volunteer pre-trip judges evaluate drivers’ vehicle inspection skills by assessing accuracy and thoroughness. Minimum volunteers needed: 25 Shift: Saturday from 7am to 3pm
DEN MOTHERS: Volunteer den mothers support competitors by assisting with organization, communication, and overall needs during the event. They help keep drivers focused, prepared, and on schedule throughout the competition. Minimum volunteers needed: 9 Shift: Saturday from 7am to 3pm
VOLUNTEER CHECK-IN: Volunteers at check-in welcome and register fellow volunteers, distribute assignments, and provide information. Minimum volunteers needed: 2 Shift: Saturday from 6am to 8am
DRIVER CHECK-IN: Volunteers at driver check-in welcome, register, distribute packets, and provide key information to competitors. They are essential to getting the event and competitors started off right. Minimum volunteers needed: 6 Shift: Saturday from 5:30am to 7:00am
FACILITIES: Facility volunteers help maintain clean, safe, and functional event areas. Their work behind the scenes supports a positive experience for competitors, volunteers, and spectators alike. Minimum volunteers needed: 3 Shift: Friday from 9am to 12pm. Minimum volunteers needed: 7 Shift: Saturday from 5am to 9am. Minimum volunteers needed: 7 Shift: Saturday from 3pm to 6pm.
EQUIPMENT RECEIVING: Volunteers in equipment receiving manage the intake, organization, and distribution of donated equipment essential to the competition. CDL Required. Minimum volunteers needed: 5 Shift: Friday from 7am to 3pm
COURSE LAYOUT: Volunteers supporting course layout help design and set up the competition course. Their attention to detail ensures the course meets standards, flows correctly, and provides a fair challenge for drivers. Minimum volunteers needed: 2 Shift: Friday from 7am to 3pm
BUGGING / DEBUGGING: Volunteers supporting bugging prepare competition vehicles for the pre-trip portion of the event by modifying components and setting inspection “bugs.” At the conclusion of the event, the Debugging team will restore all vehicles to a safe, road-ready condition before they leave the grounds, ensuring safety and compliance. Minimum volunteers needed: 4 Shift: Saturday from 5:30am to 8am

BREAKDOWN: The volunteer breakdown team plays a critical role at the conclusion of the event by packing and securing equipment, ensuring all vehicles safely depart the grounds, and checking the area for trash and remaining materials. This much-needed team helps leave the site clean and organized, and volunteers may arrive later in the day if that better fits their schedule. Minimum volunteers needed: 6 Shift: Saturday from 1:30pm to 5pm
EVENT PHOTOGRAPHER: Volunteer photographer documenting candid moments throughout the event and photographing winners during the Arizona Truck Driving Championships awards ceremony. Minimum volunteers needed: 1 Shift: Saturday from 11am to approx. 2pm
ANTHEM SINGER: This volunteer role provides a live performance of the National Anthem to officially open the Arizona TDC program. Minimum volunteers needed: 1 Shift: Saturday 6:45am to 7:15am
