Arizona Truck Driving Championship (TDC)
2024 NTDC Arizona has a Winner!
ATA Chairman Doug Dwiggins presents Greg Ryan, Walmart Supply Chain heartfelt recognition on his first place win at the 2024 Annual Meeting and Carrier Conference.
Greg achieved a remarkable victory this year, winning the national championship in the Sleeper Berth Division at the 2024 National Truck Driving Championships. This is no small feat—competing at the “Super Bowl of Safety” requires exceptional skill, precision, and dedication, and Greg’s performance truly stood out among the best drivers in the nation.
On April 13, 2024, the Arizona Trucking Association held its annual Truck Driving Championship (TDC) at Tempe Diablo Stadium.
Over 169 drivers participated in this year’s event, many of whom have millions of miles of accident-free driving.
Participants are tested in three different areas:
- A written exam that tests drivers’ knowledge of the industry, first aid, health, wellness, injury prevention, fire safety, general safety, and security;
- A pre-trip inspection, which tests competitors on their knowledge of the equipment; and
- A skills/driving test, which consists of six objectives that test their ability to maneuver the vehicle in simulations of everyday driving conditions.
Mr. David Coffel, FedEx Express, was awarded “Grand Champion” of the annual safe driving competition. Additional high honors included:
- Best Skills/Driving Course Score: Chase Peterson – Shamrock Foods Co.
- Best Pre-Trip Inspection: David Coffel – FedEx Express
- David Messmer Rookie of the Year Award: Michael Bass – Senergy Petroleum
Eight other TDC class winners will join Mr. David Coffel to represent Arizona at the National Truck Driving Championship in Indianapolis, IN on August 21-24, 2024. Team Arizona will compete against 430 other professional drivers vying for selection as the nation’s top professional truck drivers.
