Truckload Carriers Association to Sponsor Free Driver Health Fairs on September 15th
Professional truck drivers are encouraged to stop by select TA/Petro locations to get help on getting more healthy and fit
ALEXANDRIA, Va. – For the fifth year, Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) will sponsor free driver health fairs at select TravelCenters of America/Petro Stopping Centers (TA/Petro), nationwide. The events take place as part of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week (NTDAW), September 13-19, 2015, and are a joint effort between TCA, Three Points Insurance, Progressive Commercial, Bayer HealthCare, the state trucking associations, and members of TCA’s Health and Wellness Task Force.
Any professional truck driver holding a CDL is welcome to stop by one of the following TA/Petro locations between 3-6 p.m. on September 15, 2015:
TA Eloy (AZ)
Petro Ontario East (CA)
TA Cartersville (GA)
TA Boise (ID)
TA Clayton (IN)
Petro Clearwater (MN)
TA Pembroke (NY)
TA West Greenwich (RI)
TA New Braunfels (TX)
At the health fairs, professional truck drivers can make strides toward better health and fitness through fun, informative events and activities. For example, cornhole games and activity wheels will be at each location. (An “activity wheel” is where participants spin the wheel, but cannot claim a prize until they perform the physical activity indicated—jumping jacks, throwing a ball, etc.) Events will vary by location, but could include things like basketball games, dog washing stations, pet adoption, live bands, truck windshield washing stations, and more. Sleep apnea specialists, fitness coaches, and local celebrities may participate.
Each fair will have two health care professionals on-site to conduct blood pressure screens and glucose tests. TCA, with the help of St. Christopher’s Fund, will offer 75 flu shots per location. Also, select locations will offer vision and hearing testing.
According to Tom Liutkus, vice president, marketing & public relations for TravelCenters of America, the company that provides the use of their facilities for the fairs: “These fairs are vital because they provide drivers with a personal glimpse at their own potential health risks. It’s an easy, yet invaluable way for us to work together to focus drivers on exercise and a healthy diet in a fun and engaging way. We are pleased to partner with the TCA and the state associations in providing drivers these health fair events.”
