ATA Featured Member: Doudell Trucking

In most ways that matter to average Americans and business owners, the recent recession was the worst economic crisis since the Depression. However, this crisis was nothing new to Doudell Trucking—and it didn’t stop them. In the words of Vice President Mike Kunde, “Our Company has made it through the Great Depression and the recent recession—and we’re still standing!”
Doudell Trucking is a family owned company founded in California in 1920 by Jack Doudell. In 1950 the company expanded operations into Arizona. No one in the family imagined that, two generations later, Jack’s 19-year-old great nephew, Mike Kunde would come to Arizona to start the maintenance division of the Arizona operation, and to go to college at ASU. Mike is now a third-generation family owner, controlling operations in the Arizona division.
Since 1920, Doudell Trucking has provided quality trucking services to both public and private sector clients. The company’s first business line was hauling steel products from California to Arizona. They now offer full van service, flatbed and intermodal container service within the Southwest. Doudell also specializes in warehousing, transloading, storage and moving equipment and flatbed containers for commercial customers.
Kunde can attribute many factors to Doudell Trucking’s success, among them “determination, perseverance and the strength of the family unit working together”. Other family businesses and sister companies within the trucking industry include Diamond Tanklines and Transportation–a fuel transport company–and a Mitsubishi/Fuso truck dealership, both in California.
Scaling the recent economic crisis is a great accomplishment in itself, but Vice President Mike Kunde believes that his greatest accomplishment is in supporting his favorite charity, the Boys and Girls Club of America. He was introduced to the organization several years ago by a friend and has been committed to contributing regularly to their efforts and attending some of their annual functions.
Doudell Trucking’s involvement with the ATA goes back to the time when the association was called the Arizona Motor Transport Association. The company joined the ATA on October 17, 1988, and has been a faithful member for over 22 years. Mike Kunde served the AMTA as Chairman of the Board from 1993 until 1994.
What Kunde values most about his company’s ATA membership is “the flow of information on legislative, safety, and compliance matters”. In Kunde’s opinion, one of the many great benefits of the ATA also includes “being involved with a group of people who are dedicated to the heart and soul and camaraderie of all the trucking industry in Arizona.”
Thank you, Mike Kunde and Doudell Trucking, for your long-standing membership and unwavering service and support of the Arizona Trucking Association.
