2023 Call On Washington

2023 Call on Washington

What is Call on Washington? ATA members join up at a central hotel in Washington and as a group, meet with individual members of Arizona’s Congressional delegation, heads of regulatory agencies and other officials to discuss business issues, as well as attend dinners and special events.

Why should I go? No one knows our industry like we do…and Members of Congress need to hear first-hand from business owners and executives about their concerns! Who better to carry the message than you?

What does it cost? Participants pay their own travel and hotel costs and some meals. American Trucking Associations assists us in obtaining discounted room rates at a centrally located hotel. These rates are generally good for the previous weekend, and members often arrive a few days early to visit the monuments and see the sights. SW Airlines has good fares into BWI (Baltimore) and US Airways has reasonably priced direct flights from Phoenix to Reagan National Airport. We (ATA) will host at least one of the two organized evening dinners.

What is involved in the Congressional visits? You will be with other members or staff who know The District and how to get around. We arrange all the appointments, provide briefing materials and hold a prep session before heading out on our visits. We make it easy to get to and from Capitol Hill and other venues (the Metro system is cheap and easy to use), and we try to make the most efficient use of your time. You will be a veteran after your first visit!

Can my spouse/guest attend? We encourage spouses to attend! Some spouses who’ve attended in previous years look forward to this trip just to play tourist–visit museums, shop or just hang out. Others go because they enjoy the Congressional visits and actively engage in our discussions. Depending on the wishes of the group, we can arrange organized activities. There is so much to see and do in Washington that it would take a lifetime!
